We are extremely delighted and proud to announce that we won Restaurant of the Year Award 2019 for Harrogate’s Hospitality and Tourism Awards. This means a lot to our team at Konak Meze. We pride ourselves on our service, food and attention to detail.
Konak Meze Turkish Restaurant, nestled at 11–13 Mount Parade in Harrogate, opened its doors in February 2013 under the stewardship of passionate restaurateurs Firat Bulut and Osman Altuntas. Since then, it has grown into a beloved culinary institution.
The name Konak Meze, meaning “home of appetisers” in Turkish, encapsulates the ethos of the restaurant — offering warm hospitality and a rich array of traditional Ottoman-inspired dishes. Osman brings over 35 years of culinary craftsmanship as a chef, alongside decades of front-of-house expertise, creating a seamless and welcoming dining experience.
From its elegant interior and softly played Turkish music to touches like handwritten blackboards teaching Turkish phrases, Konak Meze immerses diners in the culture and charm of Turkey — transporting guests from Harrogate’s streets into a cosy, Mediterranean-inspired atmosphere.
The menu boasts dishes with deep historical roots, many tracing back to Ottoman court cuisine. One standout example is Ali Nazik — tender lamb fillets grilled and served over smoked aubergine with garlic-infused yogurt — a 16th-century recipe reportedly first enjoyed by Sultan Selim I. Another, Arnavut Ciğeri (fried lamb liver with onions and spices), harks from the street-food traditions of the 17th century.
Konak Meze’s commitment to authenticity and hospitality hasn’t gone unnoticed. It’s received glowing reviews across platforms — hailed for its “generous portions”, “exceptional service” and “cosy, classy atmosphere”. Recognised as Restaurant of the Year 2019 at Harrogate’s Hospitality and Tourism Awards, and earning regional praise for staff excellence like Waitress of the Year 2023, Konak Meze stands out for both its food and its people.
